The sense of "moment" is present in this image and the obvious character being captured is intent on a task. Technically, it seems a little dull which may be the lighting conditions - the author might have wanted to use a little more saturation to correct for the washed out effect which is only enhanced by the rather soft focus. A good entry into the challenge.

The sense of "moment" is present in this image and the obvious character being captured is full of humor and a sense of fun. Technically, it seems a little dull which may be the lighting conditions - the author might have wanted to use a little more saturation to correct for the washed out effect. The use of the vaguely detailed background is a plus. From an artistic standpoint, the subject is too offset to the right to be truly effective - a little more towards the center would have been a huge plus. Still a worthy entry into the challenge, it just falls short of being outstanding.

A farmer's face well framed and captured. Unfortunately, the sense of "moment" is missing from this image because it lacks context. From a technical standpoint, it's perfect - everything from the saturation just approaching being over the edge, to the excellant complexion of the subject and the little details of character, it's exceptional. From an artistic standpoint, it lacks any context or frame of reference to make this a truly "candid" image. In any other challenge where portrature is a component, this might have worked, but it falls just short of being truly candid.

Originally, this reviewer saw this as just another candid moment presented in snapshot format. On review, it's clear that this is much more than average and is a perfect moment in a child's life. All technical aspects are well controlled and the simple act of the child holding the stick appearing to direct the ball to do something is terrific. Additionally, the child is visually appealing. Originally a 7, this is being rerated as an 8. A good solid entry into the challenge.

A child being a child is always a good choice for a candid moment as children are easy subjects. In this case, the candid moment is a very good capture in terms of action and "the moment". Every technical issue appears to be well controlled. From an artistic standpoint, it lacks impact meaning that it has more interest as a very good snapshot rather than a thoughtful portrait. Having said that, this reviewer on third review, believes that the very nature of candid means being of the moment and this image is of the moment - thus a rerate from a 7 to an 8. A good solid entry into the challenge and a view into an everyday moment.

While a candid moment there is nothing to recommend the image from a technical or artistic standpoint - it lacks any impact or context other than being a snapsoht of a cat. The author might have done better to include more background or perhaps activity to give the impact some pop and context.

While a candid moment, the image is much too small to be truly effective - there is nothing to recommend the image from a technical or artistic standpoint - it lacks any impact or context other than eating oranges. The author might have done better to include more background or perhaps the attendant activity to give the impact some pop and context.

Too much reliance on black in this image affects it from both a technical and artistic standpoint. The ultimate black and bright whites, while an interesting artistic choice, are jarring and ineffective creating an unnatural look to the subject's face - almost clown like this may not have been the author's intent. The conversion is a good one - it just doesn't work in this setting. A better choice may have been grayscale to increase it's viewability and impact from both a technical and artistic sense. A candid moment that is worthy of entry into the challenge, it falls short of being outstanding.

A good candid moment that suffers from unfortunate lighting conditions and a difficult background. The rather odd lighting on the background affects the subject negatively because of the background - the subject appears to be over lighted and thus washed out. While it does meet the challenge criteria as a candid moment, it lacks technical and artistic impact. The author might have done better to get closer into the subject and at a sharper angle to the left.

Comment:
From an artistic standpoint, this is an image that suffers from too much background - it would have been a better choice to crop the top out of the image to concentrate on the subject. This can be illustrated by moving the browser side slider control so that the image is topped just at the first line on the background door. An excellant conversion technically, it captured the nature of a candid moment perfectly and was a good demonstration of how a photographer has to be ready to capture the moment. A worthy entry into the challene, it's technical excellance is affected by it's slightly off artistic construction.
