Fly on The Wings of Loveby konrComment: Not quite to the same level of expertise as some of the other avian images in this challenge, the image is technically flawed in that the focus is much too soft and the difficult lighting situation leading to rather flat and dull coloring. The blank sky also enhances these two problems and makes the exposure faults stand out. A good effort that might have been improved with a little more patience waiting for a different angle and lighting or alternatively reducing shutter speed or aperature while manually focusing. |

Scalesby C4PicturesComment: Extreme lighting conditions meant that a better approach might have been to reduce the exposure by either aperature or shutter speed - the image appears to be washed out. It might have been a good choice to reduce the exposure and increase the color saturation using basic editing tools to increase the visual impact of this image. The subject is richly detailed which is washed out - it would have been a very good image if only a little more exposure control was used. A good entry into the challenge. |

Run to the Hillsby BugzeyeComment: A good solid effort that suffers from too much space to be truly effective. The unfortunate and obviously difficult lighting conditions didn't help any either. A crop of the mountains would have helped, but then the whole concept of the title would be lost. A little different angle on the shot along with a little tighter focus on the antelope would have been a plus, but depending on the lens used, impossible to achieve. A good solid entry into the challenge. |

Run alongby libertyComment: There are some aspects of this image which are very effective - the vaguely detailed background and linear motion foreground is very intriguing. Unfortunaely, the motion blur isn't as effective from an artistic standpoint and a little more motion control focusing on the subject would have been a huge plus - racoons are a great subject with great color detail and that certain comedic look about them. Still a good solid entry into the challenge. |

Flightby annigComment: Not quite to the same level of expertise as some of the other avian images in this challenge, the image is technically flawed due to a difficult lighting situation leading to rather flat and dull coloring in addition to the soft focus which is ineffective. The distance involved leads to lack of detail which does not help the image at all. A good effort that might have been improved with a little more patience waiting for a different angle and lighting. |

Here Comes Peter Cottontail ... by pamelasueComment: Effective motion control and good color. The action is obvious and the detail in the focused area is very good. The image could do with a crop of about the top third of the image to create a more dynamic image - try it with your browser slider and see if you agree. Overall a good solid effort just falling short of being excellant. |

Moma Deerby DianaComment: A very good action image that is affected by it's flat color and appearance. A difficult shot in any circumstances given the obvious lighting conditions. In this case it might have been a better idea to underexpose to bring out some color and use a closer focus - woulda, coulda, shoulda which is always a problem reviewing these kinds of images. Suffice to say that it is a good image from a technical standpoint, just lacking in artistic impact. A good entry into the challenge. |

Gloves Off!by lyn100Comment: Not quite to the same level of expertise as some of the other avian images in this challenge. A good action sequence, it's view from the back isn't quite as dramatic as it should be. A sound effort that might have been improved with a little more patience waiting for a different angle and lighting. |

Australian Kelpie in actionby TitiaComment: Being a lover of herding dogs and owning several Border Collies, there is a certain appreciation for this kind of image. While a great image, it's from the wrong side - most of the fun of watching sheep dogs is "the eye" that is their main tool of choice when moving sheep. Nicely detailed image and terrific color control. Originally a 7, it's been rerated an 8 because of it's technical success. |

Play Ballby banmornComment: Sometimes it's better to just shut up and vote. A beautiful image that, on first review seemed a little over done, but on the comment pass, it just jumped out and said howdy. The whites are a little over done and it might suit the image to revisit it and tone map the whites to a more neutral level. This is a minor nit pick however - the rest of the image is rich in detail and has some significant interest and pop. Originally rated a 7, it's rerated as a 9. Well done - a top twenty entry. |
