Comment:
A very interesting image that suffers from a just shy of sharp focus. Technically, it needs crisp and detailed image to pull of a positive artistic impression. While an intriguing situation, the lack of detail causes the eye to wander around looking for something to interest the viewer. Oddly, the lighting situation may be at fault for this, but at the same time, could have been made better by a slight alteration of aperature or shutter speed. A good entry into the challenge, it falls short of having any significant impact.

Originally rated a 6 because of the impression of not quite meeting the challenge subject, it's been rerated as a 10 because of it's technical excellance and artistic impact enough it doesn't quite meet the challenge criteria. The colors, shades and crisp detail along with terrific use of bokeh to balance the image is incredible - better than any of the images viewed so far in the challenge. Everything is perfectly in balance in this image and while it doesn't quite meet the challenge subject, it is brilliant in so many ways it's hard to describe. Well done.

On the first ratings pass, this failed to impress on several levels. When returning to make the comment pass, this reviewer was clearly mistaken. A very effective image from both an artistic and technical standpoint, the rich detail in the foreground and the incredibly effective use of bokeh to create a feeling of depth and dimension is stellar. Additionally, there is a element of humor in this image which is always appreciated. Many complimentary aspects to the image from a technical and artistic standpoint, this image was originally rated a 6 - it has been rerated a 10. This should be a top ten image and a potential ribbon winner. Well done.

There are a lot of technical aspects to this image that are spectacular. The tight focus on the subject is a plus complimented by the artistic use of DOF to create a very narrow area of detail is a huge plus. Unfortunately, there isn't a real wow factor to the image as the subject is too small to have any significant impact - despite it's technical excellance, it falls short of being artistically impressive. Originally rated a 6, it's rerated to an 8 because of it's technical competance.

Another excellant image from a technical standpoint, the image falls short of being an artistic success. The use of bokeh to present a vaguely detailed background in addition to sound lighting and color control is a good demonstration of image construction and composition. Having said that, the image fails to impress despite it's technical excellance. Orignially rated a 6, it has been rerated to a 8 because of the technical expertise demonstrated in this capture.

A great capture from a technical standpoint along with the rich detail of the dog is a plus - all aspects of motion control and the perfection of the splash demonstrates proper composition and camera control. Unfortunately, the subject isn't as interesting as it could be - the charm and attraction of dog images is usually in their expression when enjoying themselves and this obviously isn't present in this image. Originally rated a 6, it has been rerated a 7 due to it's technical excellance.

Not quite to the level of the previous koi entry, this variable focus and unfortunate light blooms on the whiter fish are distracting and negatively impact the image from both a technical and artistic standpoint. There isn't a sense of motion which also affects it's artistic impact.

Not quite to the same level of expertise as some of the other avian images in this challenge, the image is technically flawed in a couple of ways being overly dark as a result of a difficult lighting situation leading to rather flat and dull coloring. The blank background also enhances these two problems. A good effort that might have been improved with a little more patience waiting for a different angle and lighting.

A very good action capture with rich detail. The slightly over done white blooms are a negative, but this is well balanced by a very effective vaguely detailed background demonstrating the use of bokeh to increase the impact of the insect. Originally rated a 6, this has been rerated to an 8 for it's artistic impression.

The vaguely detailed background is a plus, but the image is overly large to be truly effective and have a really meaningful artistic impact. The bee is an excellant capture from a technical standpoint with good detail and just slightly on the edge white bloom - very effective. A good entry into the challenge.
