Cool shot! (I think they are territorial) A little wider aperture might have gotten more of the head in focus (hard to do), but the color is very good and most of the mantis is very clear.

Nice shot, I like your elements, but your set up needs finishing. This looks newly done...to pull off the illusion, smooth the sand a bit more then rake it, then blow it. That's a VERY good picute! Love the colors. Personal taste - maybe back off just a bit (more negative space around the tree) and move to your right (if available) to catch more of the hills (and less of the town lights). If that wasn't possible, oh well. This is one of the most striking pieces I've seen here in a while. Hands down winner!!! 10 Rob the Swash (I guess now I'm going to have to vote so this counts!)

Wow, lovely shot. I wish I would have looked at this one a little longer during the voting. I gave this a 7, but I should have gone an 8 or maybe even a 9. The moon is both a nice touch and a distraction, mostly due to it's lack of clarity (and through the brush). On the other hand, this was a photo of opportunity and for that, I usually score up a bit extra. (No posing, shot might not stay around "all day")
