I gave it a 6, and pressed on because I concentrate more with commenting on the ones I vote low.

I think the colors and detail are nice, and I found it pleasing. I suspect the bigges flaw may be the composition. It is just sort of divided in the middle, without my eye being really led to any part of the image as the central subject.

It's difficult to see the structure of the flower, partly because your depth of field is shallow and partly because of the nature of the flower- the way that it is oriented makes it difficult to determine that it is a flower (to me). I usually view an image first and the title second, and in this case I wasn't quite sure what I was looking at until I read the title. Some will penalize for this. Colors and textures are nice though. All in all I think the biggest thing is DoF- more in the top left would be nice to keep the leaf in focus (or flattening the leaf more so it is in the same focal plane).

I agree with what Carl has said below. Rather than focusing too much on creating a bokeh, you should have tried to have a bokeh that would have enhanced the subject

I agree. I think a 4.85 is a little harsh for this. I think the golden light and the foggy detail in the autumn bushes makes it pretty interesting.

My first photography teacher used to always harp on our photos saying, "There's no real subject". I think maybe that may be why it was votes so harshly, there isn't a clear "something" that says, "Look at this. This is it!"

Maybe you should have tried a background bukeh that enhanced the picture better. It is hard to see how the lights enhance the cigarette scene.

Your idea might need a little bit of tweaking... I do find your focus a bit off and the entire image is just a hair too dark. Your lights in the bg are pretty but they don't really enhance the image I feel you are trying to portray. Perhaps a great iced glass of scotch or whiskey as the bokeh would have complimented it more... maybe just a table with empty chairs. I just don't feel like the lights were the right choice here. I hope this helps some :) Good luck!
