purity • strength • dignityby Ja-9Comment by sidpixel: Hello from the Critique club
An appealing image that contributes well to the free challenge
As this was revealing itself to me on my screen I said to myself ‘this has the Janine look of quality about it’, your work is identifiable for all the right reasons. The flower has a three dimensional feel to it that gives it impact, it stands out very effectively against the dark background which in itself has just the right level of detail. There are a few small highlights on the tips of the petals that are a bit borderline but that would be my only minor criticism. There is good DOF throughout and the composition is slightly off-centre which also adds, really not a lot wrong here.
Thanks for another lovely entry Janine |

An appealing image that partially meets the challenge
This is a lovely flower study, the vibrant colours are very effective against the muted and dominant greens, it works very well to that extent. As regards the challenge brief you have introduced an angle that meets part of the challenge but I think the sense of unease that will fully meet the challenge is missing here. I do like the diagonal but to achieve a greater sense of unease I think you inclusion of the horizon would make you feel more off-balance as it were.
In itself a lovely image thank you for your entry Janine

HDR ~ Church ~ Historic Landmarkby Ja-9Comment by sidpixel: Hello from the `critique club
An appealing image that meets the challenge
A very good interior record shot of a beautifully ornate church. In terms of the challenge it would probably work reasonably well as a challenge in its own right but I wonder if there would be sufficient variety of shots to make the entries interesting enough, the bulk of the shots would probably be as you have here though it would be hoped that some entries may take a very different approach. You have captured good detail throughout the shot, good symmetry with no blown highlights and good light, a very competent result.
Thanks for your entry Janine |

HDR ~ Church ~ Historic Landmarkby Ja-9Comment by jim29028: beautiful looking church, hdr in general is not something I enjoy, the imperfections/dirt on the ceiling were highlighted with this technique and would have looked better flat. This also seems to have a very slight lean to the right based on the step up to the altar. |

Eagle Eyeby Ja-9Comment by sidpixel: Hello from the Critique club
An interesting image that contributes well to the free challenge
How much did you pay him Janine? You were working well together here his position and pose and your composition have made for a very impressive end result. Good exposure control has kept good detail throughout the important areas of the image against a rather boring sky that works to your advantage to keep the emphasis on the eagle and the tree and their shape. I don̢۪t know which end of your lens you were at but if 600 you were a long way away and if 150 well done for resisting the normal reaction to go in close on the bird, anyway, whatever the focal length this is a very pleasing result.
Thanks for your entry Janine |
