I respect what Karen is seeing, but I'd point to the whitish tail feathers. Soooo..... because we are seeing conflicting field marks, let me suggest this is an American Black Duck x Mallard hybrid adult male. They can hybridize. I'm pretty sure this is a hybrid, because it fits neither of the pure species perfectly.

It is probably a female mallard based on paler and sandier. But, I see why this might be an American Black Duck. Light conditions could throw this ID either way.
