Just the fact that you mentioned that they're eyeglass screws changes my whole opinion of the shot. Thems be tiny little screws!

I wouldn't have thought a macro of a candle would come out with something so lovely, but this is quite nice.

Comment by browda1:
This was a macro photo, those are the screws and washers from an eyeglass repair kit. The screws are approximately 1/8th inch long and 1/32nd inch thick. The lighting only consisted of the onboard flash. Wasn't really trying to "say" anything -- just like screws and washers. The focus for 1:1 on this lens is about 3", about where I was. I darkened the background to more of a gray color -- the original white was too washed out looking.
Thanks for the comments and advice.

With that lens you can get 1:1 macros. This looks like a snapshot of 2 screws and washers. As already mentioned, the lighting is what is helping to kill this shot.

I'm looking into buying the same lens so try to impress me with another closer shot of these screws. Get in as close as you can, 12.5 inches or so.

I try not to be too critical in side challenges, because most people are experimenting with new techniques. Was there something specific you were trying to accomplish here?

With macros lighting is something people usually tend to explore. What kind of lighting were you using? I agree that the lighting for this is harsh and doesn't seem to add to the scene. If you mention in your comments what you were trying to do others will help you create that. Ask us, we will answer!
