Unfurledby jillzComment by dsidwell: Well, I happen to like the stalk on the left, which adds a certain feeling of the randomness of nature to the image (no offense, Karen!), especially combined with the other out of focus shapes and lines in your effective background. This works well to me because your image is so off center, and this leads my thoughts and assumptions beyond the frame of the image and into its world beyond, so I don't mind seeing extra shapes and lines because they give me more clues to the world of the photo. I love the shape of the iris, and the lines it creates, but I wish it had sharper focus--those lines on the iris, IMHO, should be clear and sharp as a tack. So this is a very nice photo with a soft, gentle feel to it. Nice emotions!
CC twice! You lucky gal!
Hope to see more of your good work in the future!

Self Portrait #4by jillzComment by OneSweetSin: On behalf of the critique club....
It is a very nice composition, your pose and use of black and white compliment this photo nicely.
There is a bit of softness in this photo, and it can be easily corrected with the use of an unsharpening mask, as it is mainly only around the eyes.
Your lighting works well with this photo as does the overall dof. This definately fits the self portrait challenge. Nicely done and hope to see more in future challenges.

Unfurledby jillzComment by KarenB: Critique Club (in case you don't get chosen in the que, and per your request in the forums):
This image boasts a beautiful blue bloom. The orientation of the petal in the foreground leads the eye into the image, and creates a place for the eye to dance along the details/patterns of the petal. The DOF use is very good, and the lighting is done tastefully. The stalk on the left side distracts my eye, and I am left to wonder if you might have been able to push it aside or block it out of the frame in some way. Perhaps cropping it out?
Nice overall feeling.
;)
