Pattern on the Half Shellby ScooterMcNuttyComment by tootsweet: Interesting idea. You have lost part of the dynamic of this with the shadow on the left. It almost looks like you are not centered. There is a weensy bit shell missing on the right, but we can't tell if it is the same on the left, due to the shadows. Leave the vertical cropping alone. I like the aspect of these lines going into infinity at the top. |

shellby ScooterMcNuttyComment by Louis: Nice. The composition is good, the focus and depth of field pleasing. I personally prefer a subject like this slightly out of focus at the edges. As a "set up" shot (as opposed to a "found" scene), I may have looked for a more complementary surface to put the shell on -- fabric with no pattern and little texture, for example, or a surface with slightly less variegation. Overall, nicely done. |

shellby ScooterMcNuttyComment by SandyP: This is verrrrrry nice! I do agree also with Codys about the issue of opening your aperture all the way up to 1.8 and 2.2. It's tempting with those 1.8 lenses because you can get so much more light in -- BUT -- I have found that it is HARD to get an entire subject in focus when I open up my aperture up that wide, so I use it very sparingly and only when what I want in focus is clearly small enough that it fits the photo -- like a single flower in a bunch.
You are awesome, Sofia! Welcome to this community. You are going to fit RIGHT in!!! :)
