_MG_3315 (1)by mgarsteckComment by tanguera: I agree with mycelium. There are some very strong elements here: the location is interesting, the harsh shadows, but it's too "clean" or "bright". I have suffered on and off with depression most of my life, and this image doesn't communicate the hopelessness I feel when I'm in that place. I think your project is a very interesting challenge because the problem with depression is the suffocating numbness, which you must communicate in a visually engaging way. I'm looking forward to watching your project evolve. |

ETA: just noticed the cutting. Even so, I stand by my original comment, and as it is, the "cutting" part seems out of place. Too posed, and the model is too aware of the camera. Cutting is not something typically done publicly or for the benefit of viewers. I think you'd need something much more claustrophobic and voyeuristic in composition and mood for this particular theme. Message edited by author 2010-07-08 00:54:49. |

Heroin Alleyby mgarsteckComment by J-Me: This is a great shot and I agree with Melethia that you have a "target audience" of which, I'm one for this shot. I actually gave you a 9 on this one because it spoke volumes to me. The bike, to me, seemed as though it might have been brought into the area by someone who had either stolen it or, was in the area for some other reason that would not normally be "his/her area" so to speak. I wasn't bothered by that. I think though that DPC is simply geared towards a different style of photography...more the advertising/stock shot combo, eye candy and a very smooth, pretty, studio look or beautiful landscape/waterscape/skyscape type of scene (zoo shots work really well in here as do water splashes and bees ROFL! ;)) Frankly, I love this type of shot and thus, the 9 in score from me. Sorry that I didn't have time to comment sooner than this. Better late than never though. :) |
