I noticed that there is a major lack in my photography that has to do with my subject, not the composition or post processing. I dont want to take mundane pictures, theres much more that i can do with my camera.
Here is a place called heroin alley in skid row. Its near the fashion district in LA. This place is dangerous because of the drugs, homeless and crime that goes on here. The scum of the earth live here and I wanted to tell my story. Its disgusting, the smell of fish and urine is everywhere. I am risking it all by carrying my camera gear here, lets hope its worth it in the end.

This is a great shot and I agree with Melethia that you have a "target audience" of which, I'm one for this shot. I actually gave you a 9 on this one because it spoke volumes to me. The bike, to me, seemed as though it might have been brought into the area by someone who had either stolen it or, was in the area for some other reason that would not normally be "his/her area" so to speak. I wasn't bothered by that. I think though that DPC is simply geared towards a different style of photography...more the advertising/stock shot combo, eye candy and a very smooth, pretty, studio look or beautiful landscape/waterscape/skyscape type of scene (zoo shots work really well in here as do water splashes and bees ROFL! ;)) Frankly, I love this type of shot and thus, the 9 in score from me. Sorry that I didn't have time to comment sooner than this. Better late than never though. :)
The individual stories here are very good. There's a glaring inconsistency in the tableau - that bike is a very nice bike. Makes you wonder how it got there, to whom it belongs, and why it is still there. The processing is OK for this scene, though some may feel it too "slick" for a street scene (as in too Topaz'd, HDR'd, whatever). Great variety of textures, good light. All in all it works quite well for me. You'll note that your commenter average is VERY high - you hit a target audience, it seems. Some days that is far better than mass appeal in my opinion. I suspect from a DPC perspective, this didn't have "in your face" enough parallel lines to truly meet the chalenge for some people. I didn't vote this challenge, but this is definitely right up my alley, so to speak.
I love the range of tonality in this image. I don't know if there this images is screaming "Parallel Lines", But I feel that it works non-the-less. It might have worked better for a challenge titled tracks.
