The heavy black at the upper right is distracting to me. I think a crop one third of the way down would have been even more effective. I thoght the shadow of the leaves on the ripple of velvet blue was the key to this shot! good luck

I'm looking at both right now, and this one is definitely an improvement. It doesn't look washed out (which the other did), and I do like that the lighting is not as even. I think I would have liked it better if the lit parts had been in the foreground and faded to shade in the background; this way looks slightly odd to me. But that would have probably been more problematic in terms of getting lighting.

This one also looks crisper, by the way. I don't know how much of that is lighting, but it looks overall like you got a crisper shot. Since your shutter speed is quicker on this one, I suspect you may have had a little inadvertant motion on the other.

The only way the other one wins out is it's a slightly better angle for the terms of the challenge.

I might have used a higher camera angle to make the railing angles more prominent. It might not have worked, but its just a thought.

This meets the challenge very well, and invites the viewer to explore the photo. I like the title. It needs a bit of sharpening, but I still think it is a great image.

Did you consider cropping out the top leaves and the bottom sidwalk? I did it on my screen . It eliminated some distraction and added to the strengt of the right angles.
