I like the "stems." For me, I wonder if you had added a leaf or two or maybe a different background. Your idea does show ingenuity though - and I like that.

Personally the coloured tissue paper as a background doesn't work for me =(
I'm also thinking, perhaps using green pencils as the stem and different colours to each flower would've worked better? Maybe adding a leaf to each 1 as well would've given an extra punch? My last point would be making the whole image in focus as the pencils which are meant to be the main part of the challenge in focus... =p sorry for the long comment and good luck!
