I like this one the best out of the two. Most likely because of the B&W processing. Also seeing the other players faces adds to the moment. VERY NICE JOB!

You most likely went too far with the radius/threshold controls.....try carefully backing them down and the haloing will diminish. You might als try to utilize your color balance tool as that can help as well as a correction for the effect.

My guess is that the foreground stuff was very dark to begin with compared to the sky, and the HDR was working hard to bring it out, resulting in some haloing, which for whatever reason came out purple. That said, it's a rather cool effect!
