Drip.. Dropby MaggyeComment by goinskiing: This one would have been really neat in landscape format. I really like the bokeh and clarity of the droplet. Great exposure. The landscape format would have made the eye follow the twig to the droplet more naturally. Well done. |

Full speedby MaggyeComment by MattO: Great sharp image. My nit with the photo the angle shot at, and the background. The man wandering in the background is pulling my attention away. One thing to remember when shooting pitchers(the easiest position on the field IMHO) go behind the backstop, take the hood off your lens(hopefully you have a high quality filter on it) set it right against the fence and zoom(if you are using a zoom) to fill the frame, shoot as wide open as you can get(almost, I usually stop down to F4) the background will blow out due to the distance from the subject to the background) the fence will blur out even at F4 and probably pretty well at 5.6 as well. Then shoot a burst while pitching. Sometimes even manual focus if the lens is hunting a bit. Shoot 4-5 bursts while they are pitching and you should end up with a great shot. Example of what I mean. Keep posting! |

Full speedby MaggyeComment by bobonacus: Nice crisp focus and I like the fact one hand is sharp and there is some motion blur on the ball ... have to admit I've no idea what the sport is, I assume baseball? I might have cropped down a little tighter to remove a little bit of the house just to stop it getting any attention ... maybe even cutting the persons head out but not 100% on that one! |

Serious funby MaggyeComment by bobonacus: Very nice composition but the crop has hurt you a bit on clarity as you mention. It's nice you have his face and expression in the shot. If you shot below 1/500 you could try a faster shutter speed which may increase the clarity but probably won't make much difference.
Matt's suggestion of panning is a good idea if you are going to be struggling for sharpness make it a feature of your shot ... though it is pretty hard to get right so I'd recommend shooting some stopped action shots as well to fall back on! |

Serious funby MaggyeComment by jan_vdw: I love surfing shots and this one is no exception. MattO is giving some really good comments here so I'll just refer to his comments. We all wish we could have the loooong reach glass :) |

Serious funby MaggyeComment by MattO: I think you have two things going against you here, but you also did alot right!
Here is what you did right.........the angle and the moment are very good, the intensity of the surfer is right there, I can feel it. Good colors as well.
What is hurting you......reach, it generally takes 500-600mm to shoot surfing and not have to crop so much that you lose detail. I also think that either a faster shutter, or slower shutter would work better, I'm not sure if its the amount of cropping that makes this effect of not stopped, or if the SS was just a touch low. I'd also recommend slowing down the shutter speed, stopping down and panning a bit. Its tough to do and the angle you do it at is important, but has an awesome effect. Good start keep them coming. |

Aloha!!by MaggyeComment by bvy: Nice colors and good job getting this kind of exposure. Not really a street shot, but a good capture anyway.
(ISO 1600 on a Rebel? Maybe the Canon is for me.)
