My first reaction, "Holy smokes - that is some demolition dust being kicked up". But then on closer inspection it is not dust - it's MOTION! This is a really cool long exposure shot. People rushing to their destinations, flowing down the stairs. They seem to burst into dust at the bottom of the escalator in the flurry of their activity. The escalator can be seen as a representation of life and life's journey. The end of the destination at the bottom of the escalator is where it comes to an end and where all life returns to dust/ash.
