Composition - I really like the colors of this image. You took this pic at a great time. The lighting is excellent really bringing out the colors. The thing I notice most about this picture is the arch of the pier. It could be used to frame the stuff behind it. I think this would help in a couple of ways - First, it narrows the field of view which might bring a stronger focal point forward. Secondly, I think switching it from portrait to landscape orientation will make it feel more natural. I think there is too much unnecessary stuff in the frame. I inspect these kind of bridge beams for a living. I like to see them, but it isn't necessary for this picture.

Photography - Exposure is great. The lighting had to be good there. The colors are awesome. The framing is the only thing that I would change about the whole picture. The rest of it is great.

Processing - Nothing is standing out, so that's good

Overall - This is a pretty good picture with a lot of potential to be much better. And I don't think it would take too much. Maybe even just a tighter crop and switching from portrait to landscape. Hope this helps a little. I enjoyed the shot. - Bob

Cropping out more of the sky would make the picture more effective I think. jgillard6

Greetings from the Critique Club };-)

Initial thoughts
Great lighting and mood, meets the challenge well, light seems a bit off

Composition/ Content

Composition is excellent, I really like the shape of the shot. Your "rule of thirds" set-up works well here. Black and White was a great choice.

Background
I like the way the table melts away into the blackness. The dark background lends itself to the mood.

Camera Work - Technical
Perhaps the best thing about the shot is the cylindrical bands of light across you subject. I assume this was shot high through the glass on the right. Excellent work.

Digital Processing - Technical
Sharpness and tone are good. Might have possibly used a bit more contrast on the glass so we could see just a little more of it.

Fits The Challenge
Definitely fits the challenge well.

My Opinion On The Photo
You barely missed the ribbon and it is one of the top shots of the week. I really don't have much to add as it is truly a great photo. Good job, and keep up the good work.

I would be happy to talk further about this shot if you would like to contact me.

beautiful. wonder if you could send this to any of the artists that worked on it. i noticed a website on some real sweet graphitti art in queens, ny a while back. reflections, and the erosion creeping down the wall from above, make this really really cool. depth of field snuck up on me. really wild, really good, can i buy a print? really though, wanna give an eleven. perfect pic for the song, you gotta send it to the chili peppers.

Congrats on a very nice black and white shot! I really love the mood you have created with this image. The foggy notion here is quite impressive. I'm not sure if there would have been a better way to create some more contrast in this photo or not, but I think it would be a great improvement if the light sources in the scene were a little brighter. I don't know if you could have opened up your aperture more or not.... great shot :) = 9 - setzler
