I like this heavyhearted image. The mottled skin of the large hand with wedding band. Sundays best with cufflinks and silk ties. The boys joyless expression with tousled hair. It all works so well together.

The composition seems a little to tight or not tight enough. Not sure if that makes sense but something is bothering me. If you crop about half way down the boys hair it pulls me in. You could also reveal more from the left side but that depends on what's over there.

Again, I like this shot but the composition is holding it back a little. 7

An odd image - could have been taken at a funeral, at a military honor or at a wax museum.
There is palpable sadness and affection and there is also a certain detachment. The blacks and greys are perfect.

Hello from the critique club

An appealing image that meets the challenge

What a lovely model she is. I can see you have spent some time getting this all set up the way you wanted it though I find it rather static and un-engaging especially as she is looking straight out of the frame. If she were looking over her shoulder back into the frame it would help but I think the dreamlike quality I assume you were seeking would have worked better if she were more distant and moving through the trees with the wispy dress trailing behind her. As it is, the unnatural shape of the dress and her static pose just doesn’t quite work in a realistic sort of way. Also it would help if you had a greater contrast with more whiteness to the dress and the background darkened down some.

Thanks for your entry Peter

Hello from the Critique club

An appealing image that meets the challenge

A lovely lady in a lovely setting. The backlit sunlight works very well, revealing in a sexy but respectable way that adds impact to her presence amongst this lovely natural backdrop. As regards the challenge it is wide angle with much of the surroundings included but I think you missed an opportunity to emphasise the wide angle element in a way appropriate for the challenge brief. If you were closer at a lower angle possibly in portrait orientation your model would have featured more prominently and the height of the un-cropped trees would have created a greater feeling of space. I find the flare on her dress very distracting it would have been better removed, also the foreground trunk and sapling on the left are detrimental to the end result.

Thank you for a lovely entry Peter, sorry you didn’t get any comments during the challenge, I hope this makes up for it.

Hello from the Critique club

An appealing image that meets the challenge well.

A lovely beach that could be seen in a tourist brochure to reflect the potential for families and surfers alike with your holiday accommodation in close proximity, so well done for finding the ideal location. Having said that my preference would be for a more natural backdrop as opposed to the man-made predominance of the buildings. I feel the image overall lacks contrast, especially in the sky, some attention here bring it more to life. Also, you have committed the sin to be avoided in any seascape shot, you have a sloping sea, it not too evident but it is there and is easily rectified, do try to avoid it if you can.

Thanks for your entry Peter.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

I realize that this is an In the Style of...challenge, and those imnsho are by far the toughest ones here. You have to be able to look at someone else's work and try to get inisde their head in order to shoot and pp their work like they would. A pretty tall order especially as odriew has a style that uses a lot of post-processing and ambiguous, abstract figures and lots of negative space.

This image is ok for what it is, with decent exposure, but it's very tightly cropped and as it's shot from backstage and with the singer's face invisible to us, and not enough of her or her surroundings to see what's going on, it's a very tough image to get a connection with. It looks too much like a quick snap and not a thought-out composition, and the score reflects that.

Comment by Lydia:
I'm not sure that the drums should be included in the portrait since they are red and "in your face"... stealing the attention from the pet in a pet portrait challenge.

I'd also have cloned out the stuff under the animal's eyes in Advanced editing.
