The yellow background is a great choice against the black, it also matches well with the golden part of the rubber. I personally like the shadow. I think I agree with Deb on the position though, this would work better with the tire in the air.

I can't add any more to what others have said. I liked seeing this during the challenge. I thought the yellow background was a good choice to help make the wheel just pop out of the picture. Something fun to try here tho would be to do a border like BHuseman did with this photo . I think it would be fun to see the wheel just kind of 3-D pop out of the background. And if you do this, and figure out how to do it, let me know lol.

I think this has some solid technicals - focus, good contrast of colors, nice lines and angles, but my impression of the shot is that there is actually a few conflicting sets of patterns that disrupt the viewer. The tire tread is a great set of patterns and carries our eyes through the image, but the spokes of the wheel is another set of patterns and one that actually confounds us a bit. But the main patterns that don't seem to work for me are the shadows - especially to the right of the image. A tire without the wheel on the same background with a bit more light coming from the right to fill the background - or a placement farther away from the backround so that the shadow is diminished - may have worked a lot better.
