Another image from my "Zen Garden in the Ditch" series, not uploaded anywhere prior to this. One of my others from this series got a lot of attention on Flickr, getting into Explore overnight. Lets see how this one does with the pickier DPC crowd.

Shot this while out looking for subjects for the Fences challenge. I found a collapsed section of ground off to the side of a country road. It afforded a wonderful vantage point to get down really low, and I was actually able to shoot UP at the grass. I've noted the location of where I was lying and the location of the subject in the notes on this photo:
Anatomy of a photo opportunity

Pre-challenge notes:
I really like the mood of this one. I think the combination of the receding silhouettes and the DOF gives this a lot of dimension and interest. I don't think there is much eye leading composition in it, however. I'm curious to see how this does, but freestudies are always tough.

Post-challenge notes:
I'm not disappointed with this performance. I knew that technical flaws would hold this back a bit. It did about what I had hoped for, though one can always hope for more.

Amazing what you can get in a very normal place when you set your mind to it. I very much like how you have just one narrow plane in focus, the foreground and the background a blurry support, the colour to hold it all together. Well done.

Looks like Fetor and I are on the same page with this one... one of my 10's in this challenge and had to come back to see how it did. I'm especially impressed at the difference in the "location" shot above and the final.. who would have thought something so beautiful with such vivid color was hiding in there! Great job! :)

Awesome silhouettes and you have a great DOF too. The border really helps the black contrast good with the deep reddish/orange sky.

now this to me is a photo that wont do well in voting, but theres something about it that makes it stand out from the other entries. is it the simplicity of the photo? are we all trying to hard to get the sharpest, most colorful photo? have we all forgotten how the simplest things are overlooked when trying to compete with everyone elses style? the simplest things are often the most meaningful subjects. my first 10

Not a fan of the foreground bokeh. I love the warm sunset colors.

I find the foreground a bit distracting - perhaps tighter cropping?
