We ain't fancy around hereby Yo_SpiffComment by Dirt_Diver: IMO, the cup doesn't help the image at all. I know your what your saying with the title but even the title doesn't really fit. You have the right idea of trying to put something else into the picture but a plastic cup wasn't the right choice.
And why does it look like dried super glue is on that apple or whatever it is? |

Exodus to the starsby Yo_SpiffComment by CNovack: Wow, I love the colors and shapes of these light fixtures. This is an interesting study in colors, shapes and lines. I like how you present this in an interesting angle, but I don't think you got the angle presentation nearly enough to make these fixtures visually pop off of their space. Yes, I know angle can be tough and what I am about to suggest *may* have been impossible. However, the lines of the tall building in the backdrop -compete- and distract from the lines and shapes of those cool light fixtures. If possible - get a straight up shot at that larger fixture on the top portion of this photo so that there is nothing but sky behind it. To me, that larger fixture on the upper portion first struck me as something seen on planetary star charts or planetary orbit trajectories. I know your title is making the allusion that all these fixtures are blasting off into space, but my eyes cannot help but be drawn to that one on the top portion. The full circular shapes and spectacular yellow/orange hues really capture my eye; would make a great abstract in a squared presentation btw. Nonetheless a slightly above average shot that shows a lot of imagination and an eye for looking at new angles to show off the beauty in what many would pass by everyday without blinking an eye. |

We ain't fancy around hereby Yo_SpiffComment by Lydia: Wow! This is really well done. Composition (of subject as given) and crop is interesting and well-balanced. I think what will be the downfall of this image is that the plastic cup just isn't pretty. And folks here want pretty. *sigh*
Lighting is very good... gives interest... and not too dark on the subject... with that great black background. Focus and DOF are perfect.
The color is AWESOME! The details are incredible... even the wood! All very well done... just that darn plastic cup. I KNOW that's what the whole image is about... and it's very creative, just not a 'pretty photo'... especially if it's taken outside of the challenge and viewed.
As a 'wild hair'... try cropping out all of the wood, leaving the stem of the lower fruit included... just the black and the fruit...and it makes the cup so much better, in my opinion.

Main Street Cowtownby Yo_SpiffComment by jeger: Hope you didn't get run over :P
I'd probably give this one a 6. Clean and simple. I'd go with either this one, or the horizontal graffiti shot. |
