From a score point of view, I think the photo would have been better if it lost some of that room above his head, and showed more of the cut off hand. But I love the natural light use here, as I often have taken photos in the same conditions. Background doesn't bother me to much cause I understand that you'll probably never get such a great smile in a more controlled setting.
