Cold Steelby MitonskiComment by hawkida: Although this image is very clear and seems to have been shot well, to me, it isn't clear what it is or why it's worth photographing and kind of loses my interest. |

Cold Steelby MitonskiComment by ChrisW123: LOL, "cold steel" should have a blue tint, not green. :) You should have renamed it "moldy steel" instead. :^D |

Glassware of Scienceby MitonskiComment by kiwiness: This is original. There are certainly many types of glass represented here, a glass salad :-) The set up is good and the lighting as well, not too dark and not too harsh. Just enough to lighen up the important parts. |

Funicular Tramwayby MitonskiComment by inspzil: Greetings from the Critique Club

Composition - Very well composed photo. The trams are a different avenue of this challenge which surely works in your favor. The colors are pretty good. I'd have saturated the grass just a little more and maybe even lightened it up just a little for better contrast purposes. The way you framed the subjects by leaving the fences in is terrific. I'm unsure about whether I like all the water in the background. It's color is a little dull but I keep looking at it and don't know if it's better in the pic or better omitted. A little is necessary, but I don't know if you need it all. I don't know if the dock contributes in any way to the pic at all. The few people in the mix makes it more real and I think that adds to the photo's appeal.
Technique - Great DOF is definitely the key to this photo's success. One tram clear and the other blurry might've meant imminent doom to this photo. Nice work there. They are pretty well exposed, brightening them up just a bit might help a little, but they are fine as is. I think if it were my pic, I would either brighten it up just a little to make it a bit more upbeat and vibrant, or went the other way and desaturated it and added a little yellows and reds to make it a semi-sepia picture. I think you could get away with the b&w or sepia of this because it would look period. It would drastically change the mood of the photo too, which could be beneficial, but there's no guarantee there. I think its all personal preference and either choice would be sound for this photo.
Overall - Nice image. Well framed, good exposure, you did the right thing by retaking this a couple times. Just really a nice piece of work as your score indicates. There must have been a few decisions to make about this photo as there are many ways you could portray these and they would probably all work. This one did pretty well so you can't argue with that!! good job and good luck in the future. - Inspzil |
