Sea Museumby DistantColoursComment by Yo_Spiff: This plays tricks with my eyes, making me perceive the tower is crooked when it is perfectly straight. Nicely done. |

Statueby DistantColoursComment by glad2badad: FWIW - Had this tied for my top pick (I gave out two 9's). I really this abstract image, and have tilted my head both ways to see if it played any better with a different perspective - nope, it plays just fine this way! Great detail and just enough side light. Only nit that could have held it back some is it gets a bit softer near the bottom edge. A square crop perhaps to lose that? Bah. Just speculating. It is what it is, and I liked it. Well done. |

Let's Do Itby DistantColoursComment by DistantColours: Originally posted by roz: Darren .. i absolutely loved this in voting .. and am so glad you got in the top 5 ..
its brilliant ..
and i was interested to know the lens you used for this shot .. Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM .. can you be quite far away from the insects and zoom in .??.
with the macro lenses i have used .. canon and olympus .. i have to be very close to the insect .. i'd love the ability to be a lot further away .. i dont think the mirrorless omd em1 Mk2 lenses have that ability .. :(
and just realized the breakdown of votes and Sara's comment .. very disappointing seeing those low votes .. as this really is exceptional .. :) |
Thank you, I̢۪m pleased you liked the picture.
I was about a metre away if I recall correctly. I think I had an extension tube on my lens. This is how I̢۪m able to get a fairly large magnification without getting too close. |
