Great Blue in the twilightby MacDonaldComment by MacDonald: Thank you for your kind words about my heron.... I get so close by waiting for hours - have spent 5+ hours one time to get the shot I wanted..... I go to a lagoon close to my home and if I see him fishing off in the distance I stake out a place where I have seen him in the past and I don't move. Sometimes he flys there and sometimes I get stiff and sore for no reason but the only way I know to get a close up of a heron is to have patience and be able to sit without too much wiggling :) - hope that helps and good luck on capturing them... they are so beautiful Message edited by author 2006-05-28 10:18:38. |

Great Blue in the twilightby MacDonaldComment by Mick: I love the detail in the feathers; it even shows in the reflection. The reflection itself is great too.
How do you manage to get so close? There are lots of herons nearby on the Columbia River, but they're camera shy and not easy to get close to. I guess maybe we're just too noisy. :)
Anyway, congrats on a moment well captured.
