After the rainby QuigleyComment by sherpet: I am annoyed with myself, as I really LOVE this floral image, and I thought I had it in 'my favorites' already, but did not, so have corrected my error right now, and have added it, and also you Max, a favorite photographer..... |

New Life on the Forest Floorby QuigleyComment by surfdabbler: Wow, nice fluorescent image. :) The focus here is slightly in front of your subject. For such macro shots, you should be using spot focus and a little tripod or beanbag, but I'm guessing at 1/6s, you were using something already. Manual focus would be even better if you are good at it (but my eye tends to focus worse than auto-focus, so I never use manual). The other focus trick for macro work is to set the focus roughly, and then move the camera forward and backward. You could also easily get away with closing the aperture a little to widen the depth of field. For editing with an image like this on DPC, I would tend to mute the saturation a little, so it's not quite so over the top, and maybe shift the colour balance a little away from the greens. |

Ol' Green Eyesby QuigleyComment by roz: lol max .. when i saw this one in with my one in pik your fav pic ... i thought .. 'i dont remember taking that photograph" ..!!! .. then straight away i remembered you saying you'd taken a photograph of a dragonfly and you'd show it to me when you'd processed it .
the colours are awesome .. i'm wondering which lens you used .. ?? ..and yes .. they can be very difficult to photograph .. patience and lots of it is the necessary ingredient .. i dont have a lot of that so i must miss out on a heap of good shots .. there can be lots of waiting around and also disappointment when the big ones that you want to shoot dont stay long in one place .. anyway max .. thanx for posting it .. its a great shot .. :) ..
ps .. thankyou for your kinds words .. but i'm a very ordinary photographer .. to ge as good as me isnt really that good at all .. i'm better in photoshop than behind a camera .. !!..:)

Bee Bokehby QuigleyComment by undieyatch: This has become one of my favorites from this challenge. The soft glow of this lens is quite beautiful. The edit is excellent & the dominating bloom is beautiful, (voted this 6) but I also like it as an fine & rare use (at least on dpc) of this difficult, fixed aperture, unusual lens. I noticed the subtle circular bokeh, an interesting characteristic of a mirror lens, while voting, but at the time was not aware of how that could occur. My criticism would be that the crop is too tight, not enough bokeh shown. |
