Don't be afraid ...by pnichollsComment by karmat: Good capture, but shame on you for scaring the poor birds trying to eat! :-) I like the way everything is in focus except the birds -- it gives a sense of motion. My only critical comment would be that it needs some "color" in the picture. The greens are nice, but it is all kinda camo-ed. Too bad you didn't have a male cardinal taking off. karmat |

Don't be afraid ...by pnichollsComment by magnetic9999: nice catch. 2 at once! there's something thought that doesnt really hold my attentnion here. maybe its because im not really sure why the birds are scared. |

Don't be afraid ...by pnichollsComment by FranziskaLang: i think this would be a lot better if the focus was on the birds and not the trees in the background. i like the motion blur on the left bird. i know the focus is tough to achieve with moving subjects like that. manually focusing (if your camera allows that) is one option, or focusing on something that is the appropriate distance away and pressing the shutterbutton half way down to lock focus, then move the camera and take the picture is another option. -- gr8photos (2) |

Don't be afraid ...by pnichollsComment by stephan: nice idea of showing an animals natural fear of humans (or other animals). i don't know but maybe decided to leave the focus on the background so that the motion of the bird "fleeing" is captured. but actually i think the other way around would have looked better. the bid in focus and the background blurred. the bird is your primary object so it should be in focus. also the lawn is much brighter than the bird which distracts from the bird, too. the other bird in the background is distracting but that's how wildlife shots are. you can't set them up for posing perfectly ;-) |

Don't be afraid ...by pnichollsComment by Swashbuckler: Background well focused. Bird fear, it will be "reaching" for most viewers. Try switching to manual focus, if your cam supports it (and doesn't error like mine). I wish I could give you a better score.......4 Swash |

Don't be afraid ...by pnichollsComment by miller: The blur on the birds doesn't really work on this shot. I'm drawn more to the pole and the background than the birds. I'm also having a hard time trying to figure out where the fear is. |

Don't be afraid ...by pnichollsComment by jmsetzler: This is a cool shot.. .did u scare the birds? lol... This is a particularly difficult shot to pull off. The bird in the foreground would be my choice of sharp focus in this photo. I'm sure this photo happened rather quickly however. In order to correct this, you would need manual focus capability to preset the focus before the shot, or you would need depth of field settings deep enough to focus everything in the frame... = 6 - jmsetzler |
