Wonder if the owl can read...by DrakeComment by snaffles: Greetings from the Critique Club!
I find the colours a little washy here, and the snow a little bleached out. Some more contrast would have helped give depth to the shot. I think a closer crop so that you were eliminating the 'ing' in the No Trespassing sign would have helped the composition a bit esp as the hole is very centred here. After all, comments indicate that people can't see the 'Private Property' part of the sign, so you can't assume that people *know* what the rest of the sign says.
Hope this helps

Posing for the USPSby DrakeComment by pixelpig: Originally posted by pixelpig: z |

I usually look at the image for a while while thinking about a comment. Sometimes I fall asleep. I think I must've hit the z without knowing it, & then voted. I couldn't think of anything to say other than it's a great shot of an awesome bird, in a truly classic pose. I would be very pleased to capture such a shot myself. Well done! |

Posing for the USPSby DrakeComment by sidpixel: Hello from the Critique club
An interesting image that does not meet the challenge
I am assuming that the 'broken' advanced editing rule is your cloning as described in your description but this is allowable in the rules so it is not broken. If that is not the case then it is not obvious to me, or indeed, your voters what rule has been broken. Having said that it is has placed and scored very respectably. In terms of the image itself I seem to find myself repeating myself in that I like to see an element of animation through motion blur and there is evidence of over-sharpening, these are both aspects that I know I have commented on before. I really don't want to give a negative impression with regard to your otherwise excellent eagle images but I have to be honest with both of us.
Thank you for your entry. |

Aging Wall on the Fallasburg Covered Bridgeby DrakeComment by snaffles: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Technically this is a pretty decent photo, with no blown-out highlights, even on the ice. Nice touch with the Canada Geese bobbing in the water to the left. I love old buildings and the barnboard appearance of the bridge shows its age. It has a certain dignity to it. However, as the lighting is a bit flat and you have an almost-flat on shot of the covered bridge, it gives the image a bit of a two-dimensional aspect. Depth is the third dimension that brings an image alive. Hitting it up with either a smaller aperture, even just f.4, would help add some contrast. Or you could do it in-camera or in a post-processing program. Even better would have been to walk up a little closer to the bridge to get more perspective, a sense of the bridge in time and space.
It would also help to shoot either slightly lower or higher than what I call 'average standing person point of view'. Crouching and shooting up with a shorter focal length than the 70-200 (I have that lens too) could make all the difference in the world.
Hope this helps, look forward to more entries from you. Feel free to PM me with any questions.
