Oh this is COOL! My cat gets on my black car (GRRRR) in direct sunlight and just BAKES!! LOL. Love the slices of light on the cat, and the grain really adds for me fantastic pet shot! B&W is perfect for this as well!

Nice strong contrasts. almost missed the cat. Anyway, I love the angle on this and the black and white treatment. Expounds upon the best the image has to say. Wouldn't work as well in color.

LOVE the colors and the sky is awesome!! the trees as you mentioned could be a bit crisper, but yes with a slightly shaky tripod and 300mm lens I completely understand, I have a heavy duty Bogen tripod and still struggle with crisp shots at 300mm as evidenced by my occasional Moon shots. Very dramatic and still a wonderful photo! Well worth getting up early!!
