Growth On Tree 120.jpgby bennettjamieComment by Prof_Fate: Nice light and the BG is wonderful. too centered a composition, not very 3D. The branch in the upper right which might be considered distracting, could I think have been used in the composition to add a contrast to show that the growth is abnormal. (theory is, unless it adds to the photo, remove it. Photogragraphy is subtractive where as painting is additive - a painter starts with an empty canvas and adds to it to make an image. A photographer have everything in front of him, and has to remove what isn't wanted thru framing, DOF, etc.) |

Textures Old Log 108.jpgby bennettjamieComment by Prof_Fate: More sidelighting would enhance the textures - the idea is to make a 2D photo show the 3D world and this doesn't really do it. I understand what you after here, your idea I think was good, but you're lacking the compositional skills to pull it off. So google composition as it applies to painting and photography. Rule of thirds and leading lines are common ones, but there are many more. |

Prickly Thing 045.jpgby bennettjamieComment by Prof_Fate: nice use of DOF to get the BG oof and not distracting. sharpness if fine. A tad more contrast would be nice.
compositionally, it would be better if you'd framed it just a little differently - the FG blur and bud that's also in focus are competing for my attention. |

Ripples Abstract 086.jpgby bennettjamieComment by Nusbaum: This is a wonderful image and maybe a great example of what can happen when you stop create an image and simply allow yourself to react and capture the light. (an assumption given the gallery title) |
