Day-1 The Famous Dayton Courthouseby TCGuruComment by TCGuru: Originally posted by agrimace: His conviction was later overturned wasn't it? Thanks for the history. |
A year later, the Tennessee Supreme Court reversed the decision of the Dayton court on a technicality--not the constitutional grounds as Darrow had hoped. According to the court, the fine should have been set by the jury, not Raulston (the Judge). Rather than send the case back for further action, however, the Tennessee Supreme Court dismissed the case. The court commented, "Nothing is to be gained by prolonging the life of this bizarre case."
The Scopes trial by no means ended the debate over the teaching of evolution, but it did represent a significant setback for the anti-evolution forces. Of the fifteen states with anti- evolution legislation pending in 1925, only two states (Arkansas and Mississippi) enacted laws restricting teaching of Darwin's theory. Day-1 The Famous Dayton Courthouseby TCGuruComment by DjFenzl: yeah! As I get older I'm becoming a fan of History and and historical sites so I was hoping to see some in this challenge.
I like that tower, makes for an interesting subject.
Suggestions for improvement (IMHO): I agree with the other comments on the sky. The only other thing would maybe be a little wider angle. I'd like to see a bit more of the building and landscaping. |

Day-1 The Famous Dayton Courthouseby TCGuruComment by Arcanist: I like the work here. Makes it look like a postcard that should be sold in the gift shop of the landmark. I agree with exposure here, although the sky is blown out, it seems that the colors here are somewhat murky, but that could simply be due to weather.
An Idea:
In PS, create a duplicate layer and set this layer to SCREEN.
Press ALT and the mask icon to change the layer to a black mask.
Set your paint brush to 11% opacity and White Color.
Now paint over the building until you pull the color out of it (Dodging/lightening the areas.)
(This can be done on over exposed areas as well - if they have detail, using the Multiply option to Burn) |
