it's odd to have her veil go straight out and up like that. seems like somebody's holding it up. her smile is happy but also a little goofy, probably because she's hyped up, has extra energy, you might even call it anxiety. I know that's hard to avoid on a wedding day.

I like the idea you're going for, the composition and pose. I do agree with the other commenters though that the veil could stand to be distinguished a little more from the background. My preference is for a more direct glance towards the viewer, or maybe cast downward and in, and I'd vote for seeing a bit more of her dress, to give it that extra touch of "bride" context. She has a lovely smile, but I find myself wishing her eyes were not looking off to my left.

Rheverly made a very good point that you captured her relaxation with you as the photographer very well, and that's a great thing to have accomplished.

She looks happy, and that's an incredibly important part of this ("this" being "the day" "the ceremony" "the photograph" . . . everything!). To me that says she was happy, and that she was comfortable with you as a photographer. Having that happen and capturing is is important, and something you can't make up for later.

I'll add to what's already been written that her face is turned to your right, but her eyes are turned to your left. For me, eyes looking in the direction opposite the direction the face is looking look shifty eyed. She looks like something distracted her, not in a good candid way, but just in a distracted way. I don't do portraits very well, so I can only react, but I think this is part of the reason photographers often have you turn your body or your head or both when they're shooting, and have you look in that same direction. She doesn't need to be looking at the camera, but for me if she's turned one way and looking another it looks a bit uneasy.

I'm conflicted. She wants to take center stage but there's not enough light on her and the background wants to do the same but it doesn't have the detail to do so. I wonder what this might look like in b/w.

Her face makes this picture. You could get a nice portrait out of this by cropping accordingly. The white background makes it very hard to see that wisp of veil (or laceor whatever). You could probably do some photoshop magic to salvage that side of the photo. Might also crop out that bit of dress showing at the bottom, or go the other way and show more of the dress (at a glance it almost looks like a nude).

Great capture - possible to crop it so the shot is mainly him and the garter?

Also a decent shot. Might look better by leveling out the top of the cake and centering it in the frame.
