Mar 22 - Inside a tulipby hajekaComment by MelonMusketeer: I run into the same focus problems when I get in close. I seem to shoot most of my macro outdoors using my monopod, and generally there is just enough breeze to keep everything moving a little. When you get this close to a subject, DOF is very tiny. Some of the better micro macros are done by shooting a group of shots at slightly differing focus points, and then masking the OOF areas and stacking them to achieve greater DOF than can be done in a single exposure. I think that there is a DPC tutorial on it somewhere.
Ext tubes are my choice too for this sort of thing. I sometimes use an 11 mm tube on a 20mm lens and it is a great combo if you can put the lens right on the subject. |

Even laurel knows spring is coming!by hajekaComment by vlado: Commenting as part of my Team Suck duties... .
Yet another Team Suck member, treated too harshly by the voters, I feel. That said, I've found that my simple, minimalist images are very hit and miss, more miss than hit actually. I like the colour and the detail. Shallow DOF is a bit distracting though (IMHO). Composition works well for me. Think the voters were a bit harsh in this instance. |

Mar 22 - Inside a tulipby hajekaComment by GregoryB: Nice one Henk. Good detail in the stamen. I think the trick is to gently rock back and forward instead of trying to actually focus with the camera. You get a hang of it after a while. A millimeter or two out and the focus is gone.

Mar 21 - Closeupby hajekaComment by GregoryB: Not a bad effort Henk. The extension tubes certainly reduce the margin for error in focusing. And thanks mate, good to be back too. |
