I am afraid I don't know who JW was...
I couldn't really see this photo accompanying a news article, and I struggle to realy get a connection with the challenge. As a stand alone photo it seems a luittle flat and I get a feeling of accidental composition.

I don't know who JW is, but that's not important anyway.
Focus is ok . But exposure or lighting, wb and particularly the composition could be better.
I also think the theme does not work for a front page..don't you agree?

That boat on the right has got some awesome color! I bet this would look even better with some tonemapping. And yes, I'm on the HDR/tonemapping kick right now!
