Next time you go to this event, take a walk to behind that goal, I assume that is a fence back there. Take the hood off your lens,(hopefully you have a filter) stick it right against the fence and shoot this same shot. The difference in the angle and the shot that you get will amaze you. When you get to the fence pick the center focus point and stick it right in the middle of the square so that the fence isnt in the way of the focus point. The fence will blur and not be there at f4 or wider, sometimes even 5.6 but the need to put the lens against the fence becomes greater the more you step down.
