'Notherizardby MelonMusketeerComment by ursula: Very beautiful idea to photograph the little lizard through a screen of out of focus leaves/flowers. I wish the lizard were in better focus, and that the darks on the bark weren't so dark that they have lost most detail. The image looks a little noisy overall. I also wish the intrusion of the one clear stem at top weren't there (it sort of goes against the composition). I love the idea though. |

White Peacock Bugby MelonMusketeerComment by ErikV: Nice how you got the entire butterfly in the plane of focus. (Agree with others that selective darkening of leaf at bottom would be useful.) |

White Peacock Bugby MelonMusketeerComment by GregoryB: Nice capture Waddy. Detail and toning on the butterfly is excellent. My only down point, I suppose, is the harsh light on the leaf to the right drawing my eye away from the butterfly. Maybe a bit of selective S & H in photoshop. |

White Peacock Bugby MelonMusketeerComment by pjangel: Very good detail and DoF... the lighting around the body of the butterfly does seem to be just a tad harsh, but that may be a little to nit picky! Great capture. |

White Peacock Bugby MelonMusketeerComment by glad2badad: Hmmm. I hope not to offend here. Not sure how "honest" we're supposed to be in these side challenges (I've only done a couple over the years).
At first glance this image is fine. It's interesting and pulls the viewer in for a deeper examination of the subject.
The objective 'DPCr' in me sees another item or two: The most obvious being the lighting. It's a little strong. While that's good for getting the details it can also be a tad harsh. The leaf underneath the butterfly is what really makes me bring this up. The leaf is washing out instead of being yellow/green. Because of the washout the leaf blends in with the butterfly somewhat. Did you consider using a CP during this time of day? Sometimes a polarizer can add color depth in non-traditional ways. Just a thought.
Another consideration is to create a duplicate layer, multiply mode, and try fading to see what it does for the color and highlights.
Geez. I hope I'm not being an ornery bugger. ??? |
