This might be more interesting if the shadowed area were completely black. The little bit of detail is a bit distracting. And the gaping eyehole is creepy.

Pretty cat, reminds me of one of my girls. I like what you were trying to accomplish with the lighting although it might be a tad too bright on the left side. The shot is out of focus too much, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. The eye is almost in focus and the rest is totally out of focus. I would have preferred a very sharp eye and focused face.....but that's just me! Good luck in the challenge.

not very sharp and the dark shadow on the right side of the face isn't flattering ...

Comment by CNovack:
The colors and the sharp details in this cat portrait are all there EXCEPT we only see half the face! The other half is totally lost in shadow - even the eye, the pink of the right half of the nose and the normally pink shade of the inner ear on the right hand side are all lost to shadow. Sometimes a face/portrait that is half in shadow can add drama and interest to a photo's appeal but there is no shadow of mystery/drama in this shot. Lighting and the straight on eye level angle of the shot make it a standard portrait shot where one expects to see the full details of the face in full. Better illumination of the right half of the cat's face would improve the appeal of the photo because the viewer will be more able to fully appreciate the cat's portrait.

what a bizarre photo. I think a more centered composition would work better, reminiscent of Andy Warhol. 7

like the lighting but the focus is softer than I like for this type of portrait - i want to see more detail in the whiskers, etc.

Love the idea behind this, and the composition of the ladybug on the left-hand leaf. Focus is an issue here, though. Also, would like dirt 'horizon' to be a bit lower. 5.

In my opinion this could win a ribbon. I guess it is not a "natural photo" but rather something you set up. Am I right? You chose the right colour for the background. Good lighting and composition. Good interpretation of the subject. Good luck

I don't like it when staged photos look cheezy because you can tell they're staged, and the staging doesn't seem to have a point, visually. This one is not cheezy looking.
