Magic Stickby colorcarnivalComment by levyj413: I find it compelling, actually. I want to yell to the boys "run to the color before it fades out completely!" It's like the stick is the only thing anchoring them to the world of color, and once it gets too far away from them, they're stuck in a gray world. |

The Flower Fairy (Day 8)by colorcarnivalComment by CNovack: The selective desat. really helps the colors of the flowers pop off the page. I like the composition in which the shadow of the hand(s) reach and the tips touch the bottom stems of the tulips. To me it projects the action of "just reaching a little more", a little more....got them! And that is a wonderful little story to go with the picture. I trust the 'flower fairy' made another visit today;-) - Happy Mother's Day! |

He's probably right, but there's nothing wrong with that. "Photoshop tinkering" is its own art form.
It's true that this picture doesn't quite come together, but I don't think it's all that far from doing so. You have the boys directing attention to the main object. Even though we can't see their faces it seems that they are rapt. This is good for a photo, because this sort of attention calls the viewer to attention. But the selective saturation is too much. It overpowers the rest. selective desat is a very powerful visual technique and therefore is almost always misused.
Perhaps without it, the stick gets lost. I can't know without seeing the original. Maybe a more subtle saturation? |

Magic Stickby colorcarnivalComment by agenkin: A non-photograph. A mediocre shot was used as a canvas for Photoshop tinkering, with the result of the type "look I found this new button in Photoshop". |

Ash Tree (Day 9)by colorcarnivalComment by SandyP: Well, you'd never know you were uninspired by this photo. It's very interesting, and the perspective is great! The barrenness in black and white adds a touch of drama too!
I love it!
