_DSC0190.jpgby sulamkComment by MelonMusketeer: This is a very interesting bug. I see several areas that I would like to see a lot closer. The vein pattern in the wings, or the rough area right behind the head would make great subjects. I do understand that you can't always get living critters to cooperate when you want to photograph them though.

_DSC0190.jpgby sulamkComment by ursula: It is a beautiful subject, and the colours are rich without being overwhelming.
The image could use better sharpness and a tidier composition. You probably couldn't do this without scaring off the subject, but moving the brownish branches out of the way might have helped. Sometimes you can set up at a place, and then wait for the bugs to stop by and then you can shoot them. :) |

_DSC0190.jpgby sulamkComment by MattO: Def. at this magnification its a macro. I cant read the EXIF on it and the details are there. looks to be a touch of movement which hurts the sharpness. You really need to up the shutter speed or use flash to freeze the subject. I'd also like to see the whole hopper or going with a tighter crop to isolate what you are focusing on. Its almost as if you couldnt decide whole subject or highlight a specific spot, so you went in between, either way is good, but this just seems like an odd crop to me. Good start cant wait to see what the next 9 will bring. |

_DSC0190.jpgby sulamkComment by Budya: What a patient fella! With macro at the end of your lens, you should be able to get closer but I think this still qualifies as a macro. I really like the colors and the details on his back, I wish the focus was a tad sharper. |

How do you prevent them from jumping away? When I tried a similar shot I never got near enough. Message edited by author 2008-10-02 07:06:18. |
