I might have tried including her head and the horse's feet... seems a bit tightly cropped to me.

I like the way you've stopped the action, but you've also cut off the head of the rider and the feet of the horse which weakens the shot.

This is a good shot with an interesting subject, good focus and good sense of action. Tthe reason it's not a GREAT shot is it's cropped on both the top and bottom........ when you have a tall subject like this and you want to bring it closer to the viewer, you must chose one or the other. You can only get away with cropping both ends when the subject is symetrical. Generally on horse shots you crop the hoofs unless it's flying over a fence or post and part of the picture. Another draw back to this picture is the horse seems more in control than the rider, who appears about to break into tears.

THe quality of the subject shot is quite fine, good exposure, the cropping of the top of the riders head and the front legs of the the horse really mars this.

I suppose Marathon Runner Magazine also covers cross country events. Top capture here, amazing concentration written all over his face. Did he win?

Well he's definitely a marathon runner and your capture of him is quite fine. I am bothered by the police line tape running accross the background and the background might have been blurred for less distraction.

This is a very nice, clear photo. It seems a bit out of place to me that on the front of a runner's magazine that you can't see any of the legs of the runner. I think I would like it better pulled away a bit to see the legs.
