Get rid of that date, and work on improving the exposure. this is too pale. If you take it into the editing software that came with the camera, even the auto adjustment would vastly improve this.

This must be your first entry, sorry you will not score high with this shot, hope you are willing to learn from mistakes. First turn off the date, then try to focus better on your subject, trying to catch the eyes of the bird would have been very nice...good luck!

The idea is not at all wrong, but for starters the date tag is very distracting. I suggest you configure your camera so it won't show, as it really detracts from the picture; remember that with the Exif Data you can always know the date and time details without them necessary showing on your shot.
Other thing is contrast and sharpness, your shot lacks of these two aspects.

The contrast is way too low. Turn the date feature off before taking photographs for a challange.
