Oh, oh, very nice. Texture and light and shadow perfect (not easy in a white flower) for seeing and feeling the design of the bloom. In photos like this I am never sure whether to include edges or just go with the abstract geometry - you seem to have made a nice compromise.

Without looking at the other comments I would have said Celosia Toadicum obscurantum, believed to be very important in some folks' medicinal repertoire.

Photography full of hard choices! My guess is that you would have needed a telephoto to isolate the fresh sprout, or a wider aperture, but then we would have completely missed Toad in the mulch. Actually I tend to favour accident over control. (Just as well). T

Interesting colours and I can see why you wanted to include Mr Toad too. You could potentially have cropped it so that you had the two flowers in one shot and the toad in the other.
