I think you are figuring out the problem. These are alot crisper and sharper than your earlier ones.

I like this alot. He has a very natural pose that looks like you just caught a handsome boy deep in thought. Great job!

Lots of potential here...you've captured a mood of quiet introspection that I think would come across even better in B&W. Perhaps playing with highlight/shadows could help to reduce that uneven light across the nose. And of course if you could boost the sharpness a bit that would further improve it. :)
