Comment by DrAchoo:
The technicals: the focus is soft. That's my first impression. I do like the sillouette. I much prefer strong sillouette to a little detail. The red works as a hyper-reality shot.

The feel: composition is a bit off. I'm not sure about the bushes on the left. The tree on the right isn't bad, but I may have cropped that as well. The car doesn't serve much purpose and contributes to a "snapshot" feel.

The game: DPC loves sharp. This feels soft.

I was out trying to get some good shots with my red filter that I was going to convert to black and white later on. When I saw this on my screen I thought it looked great as is. If I get a chance I'll link to the full size version which I think does this more justice.

EXIF Info in the information above. You'll note that I went -3 on the exposure compensation. It seems to help when I am using my red filter otherwise it seems to over expose a lot.

Since you asked for comments ... I gave you a 4. Here's why. Finnegan's facial expression is good, but its hard to see the eyes, and that's what really grabs you in a great pet shot. We get a little of the left eye (and what we see is good), but nothing on the right. The light is also a bit harsh on the left, and you've lost the detail in the area above his eye. The background is distracting, even though blurred, because of the lines of color and form that distract from the subject. A more monotone background would have worked better. The image also could have been cropped much closer to his head, to minimize the distraction of the background. Finally, the leash going out of the frame on the lower right is distracting. Some of these are little nits, but they add up, and its the details that really matter.

Beautiful portrait, suitable for framing, and meets the challenge well. When it was first loading, I thought he had a nail sticking out of his neck.

Maybe me, but it seems a bit tilted? Nice colors and goos silohuettes created.

A little too dark for my taste, but stunning none the less.
