Superficially, the point seems to be the play on the word "center" and then the skewered "C" and the lower cross-hairs. The sumptuous grain and rich purple offer greater interest and, for me, pleasure. I also like the red accents.

I find myself liking both versions equally :) - the b&w really gets at all the juicy detail and contrasts, while the color seems to evoke more of a mood and sense of place - it's a matter of emphasis

Beautiful B&W image. Subject material is "ok" ... not that abstract (a little I suppose). Looks like a great place to have on your list to visit with a camera once in a while. Good luck.
