There's a couple of things that don't work quite right in this photo. This really is almost exactly between rule of thirds and centered. If you would have cropped from the right a little, it would have worked for centered, if you would have cropped in from the left, it would have worked better for rule of thirds.

This is a wonderful photo--I like the weeds in the front and the shallow depth of field. But the pine tree is very distracting and it seems a tad dark. I hope you don't mind, but I liked the photo so much, I brought it into photoshop so I could suggest a crop and lighten it a tad. This is what I would suggest: . I just cropped it and adjusted slide in levels. (I actually would have the bird more off center, but with cropping out the tree, you can't really get the rule of thirds).

Feel free to completely ignore this if you disagree. It was just a suggestion because the shot really called to me. Good luck with the challenge! :D

I think there is still too much distracting detail in the background, and it's a pity that the birds right wing is kind of blended with his body. You did get the stopped action of the bird with a nice sharpness, though.

Exit 254, I missed that exit just the other day and had to go to the next exit to turn around....lol, the view as you come over the top of the hill has always been one of my favorite views while driving up to the hills. Nicely captured, good luck in the challenge.
