The pic is nice -- kinda has a Huckleberry Finn thing going on - cept for the shirt which I dont really get. Not too much interesting lighting going on - it's pretty even.

Things I would change about this: I'd use white balance or levels to make the background surface lighter, I'd remove the hanging string or wire hook that distracts the eye, and I'd crop it so the shadow isn't touching/cut off by the frame

I think the composition of this shot is pretty close to "perfect." There is nothing major that I would change. It is well balanced, and does a good job at controlling the eyes and their movement within the picture.

I like the contrasting colors, and the balance between the red and green. The icing on the cake disappears into the glass of milk, though, and that is mildly distracting. Perhaps a sharper focus on the cake itself, and sitting the milk further back so that it blurs a little.

To me, the shot is slightly out of focus; not much, but enough that it makes me want to squint and make sure it is the picture and not my eyes -- it is that close.

Nicely done.

The flower is well past its prime, yet still visually interesting, and the interest is enhanced by desaturating the other colors in the image. Great composition, focus, and lighting. But I don't really get a feeling of loneliness or solitude.
