This is effective on so many levels, and I could probably write paragraphs analyzing it. One thing I really like is the framing. The way you isolated your subjects with respect to the grid lines in the pavement, give it a disorienting, warped-reality sort of feel. I think it would work even if we couldn't make out your subjects (feet and dog), but of course they makes it even more fun. Great.
