Swallowed by the Forestby DJLubaComment by GolferDDS: Satisfies the theme. I am wondering what your picture would have looked like if you took it from a lower angle and were a little closer to the rocks. I think it might have given it more of a feeling of depth and brought the viewer into the picture a little more. |

Singing Needlesby DJLubaComment by dr rick: Greetings from the Critique Club!
The message
A great "natural history" shot of some insects in their habitat. All three are facing upward, giving the impression they are all climbing up the tree. I don't know whether that is true or not, but it makes a good story!
Creative choices
The shadowless lighting works well here; the reflection in the one wing shows its shiny texture. The composition works; I especially like the diagonal branch leading from the bottom bug to the top one. There isn't much negative space in front of the top bug, which conventional "rules" would suggest, but that doesn't bother me; it encourages the feeling that they are moving and actually makes the image more dynamic.
Technical aspects
Focus is great, although too soft for the subject matter; some sharpening would help bring out the interesting venation in the wings. Exposure is just right. Color seems a little green, but that's probably just my color blindness. |

Swallowed by the Forestby DJLubaComment by photom: I like the colors - a bit saturated but effective. Great DoF - meeting the challenge very well. Improve it by: a) Not placing the gray granite dead center, and b) Remove the overpowering border. |

Swallowed by the Forestby DJLubaComment by jodiecoston: Really interesting and unusual perspective. Nice choice of lens to really take something that might be chaotic and uninteresting, otherwise, and really add a sense of being there. Unusual, but I like it. I think this is one that would grow more and more on me every time I look at it. |

Singing Needlesby DJLubaComment by Konador: Seems slightly soft, which could be easily fixed by USM. The composition is good and meets the challenge obviously :P |
